A RESOLUTION IN PROTEST OF CERTAIN RATE INCREASES
PROPOSED BY THE EAST OHIO GAS COMPANY WHICH AFFECT
USERS IN THE CITY OF FAIRLAWN, OHIO.
WHEREAS, the East Ohio Gas Company now proposes a $1.843 rate increase per
1,000 cubic feet to its customers and a $5.50 per month service charge; and
WHEREAS, such utility companies have a responsibility to their present users
to charge economical rates for services provided; and
WHEREAS, utility companies should exhaust every other alternative before raising
rates to present users, who already pay a sufficient amount for the service
provided and before utilizing devices to raise rates, such as service charges;
and
WHEREAS, rise in utility rates can only worsen the problems of inflation.
NOw, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRLAWN, OHIO'

Section 1: That this Council is steadfastly opposed to the rate increase
recently proposed by the East Ohio Gas Company which increase shall affect owners
in the City of Fairlawn, Ohio.
Section 2: That this Council strongly urges utility companies and leaders of
government to reject rate increases which penalize present users of the system
and which worsen the problems of inflation.
Section 3: That this Council strongly urges utility companies and leaders of
government to seek alternative ways of reducing costs in the provision of services,
or alternative ways of providing revenues by means other than general rate increases
to present users.
Section 4' That the Clerk of Council is hereby directed to distribute copies
of this Resolution to the East Ohio Gas Company, the Public Utilities Commission
of Ohio, the Governor of Ohio, and our own elected representatives to the state
and federal legislatures.
Section $' That it is hereby found and determined that this legislation complies
with Section 121.22, O.R.C. regarding notification of meetings and all deliberations
of this Council pertaining hereto have been conducted in accordance therewith.
Section 6' This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its
adoption and approval by the Mayor.
